A freight train collapse in Taiwan. The preliminary cause: overheated axle bearings

Train accident TaiwanA freight train collapsed on March 6 near the town of Suao (county of Yilan, Taiwan). The incident occurred at 9:24 am near the Yongli station, where the railway traffic was paralyzed between the cities of Suao and Tongala. There were no human casualties, but  200 meters of power lines and two electricity towers were damaged. The accident affected around 40 passenger trains with more than 12,000 passengers.

According to a preliminary investigation, the incident was caused by overheated axle box bearings

According to preliminary data, the cause of the incident lays on overheated axle box (axial) bearings. Taiwan Railways Administration said it will investigate thoroughly and punish those who are responsible, if any human errors would be proven.

The railway traffic on the site where the accident occurred, restored completely after 1 day.
